Darius Davies: Road To Wrestlemania Edinburgh Review 5 Stars
Edinburgh review ***** The Free Sisters, Gothic Room 6.15pm until 28th August. Pay what you want.
This is a coming of age show, a show that will have you in turns laughing, entertained, intrigued, interested, and disgusted all in one hour. This show without a doubt is a must for any wrestling fan visiting the Edinburgh fringe festival this year – charting the tale from Darius’ deluded WWF Tough Enough audition video at 18, via his love for wrestling through fantastically funny interactive clips, to his first tentative steps into the ring.
As an audience we were taken on a journey down a hilarious memory lane, then learnt some insider knowledge about becoming a professional wrestler, and the very real pain, pitfalls, and drug use (steroids in Darius’ case) that these men and women put themselves through every time they step in the ring. This show definitely rewards wrestling fans, with lots of little easter eggs and nods to ‘sports entertainment’, however such is Darius’s energy, stagecraft, and passion that even the most sceptical of non-wrestling fans will find something to absolutely love in this show.
Darius Davies: Road To Wrestlemania is an excellent 5 star show and a must see for fans and non-wrestling fans alike. Go along and see how fake you think wrestling is after…..and that’s the bottom line!
